Idea #2

Brief:

Inner City

Exclusively for girls/boys aged 12-17

inner-city cool with a focus on uniqueness

New York sensibility black and blue are the dominant colours

snow board and hip hop are also influences

Blake Lively is the model Type

slogan

you can't resist

Idea 2:

Color scheme:

Black, - power, elegance, and formality.

Lighter blue - depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.

Brown: reliability, credibility, comfort, endurance, stability, simplicity, comfort

This design idea really speaks to the brief. It is one of three models I have thought about, and this is basically the middle-class version. It incorporates a lot of ideas from Greenwich Village in New York; the style of everything is tried to match Greenwich Village. The pictures show how the people live in Greenwich Village and what kind of clothe they would like to wear. It really gives a good feel of how the style of this inner city could be.

Design Idea #1

Idea 1: (Style)(Feminine Design)
Color scheme:
Neon Pink - Feminine colour
Blue - depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.
Black - power, elegance, and formality.

This is the “poor” Inner City version. It is related to places such as Harlem and Brooklyn (sometimes even called Krooklyn because it is so nasty), and tries to incorporate its “style” into the basic idea. On the pictures, it can clearly be seen that the neighborhood isn’t very expensive, and the people living in it, are dressed like “G’s”. This is a very interesting Inner City idea because places like that aren’t designed too often.

The three following posts really grabbed my attention:

The post on Neatorama by Cindy really inspired me. I really love the design of it, and think that it is a great design. Form incorporates function! It really looks interesting and attracts the eye because of its colors. It really makes the viewer look a 2nd and 3rd time. In addition to looking good, it also has a proper use; it is very comfortable, and the reader doesn’t have to get up to read a book, he can just grab it from the position he is sitting in. This is a really attractive design, in which form incorporates function and it really makes use of color and the effects it has on the viewer.
The 2nd post I really enjoyed reading in more depth was by Ika, and about the "La-Z-Boy" chairs. The chair really looks incredible and the functions it incorporates are really unbelievable. Having a fridge, phone, heating, a massage system, loudspeakers and laptop rest in a chair makes me speechless. It also looks pretty good, which really makes it worthwhile taking another look, and makes the consideration to buy it pretty realistic. Who wouldn’t want to have a chair like this, in which he can relax and hang around in?! Everyone would want it. It is great design, and I am convinced it will stay around for a long time.
The last design that really grabbed my attention was the post on the “Modbook” by Nicki. This absolutely blew me away. It amazed me so much that I even researched it myself after reading the blog. The idea of making a MacBook, a tablet is awesome. This will really lets all design orientated people’s heart beat faster. Just like our IBM tablets, this is a tablet on which you can draw and do all the other creative stuff. I would suggest this to everyone who really wants to have the coolest of the coolest and needs to sketch a lot on his way. It is a great design.

Salomon RS7

This new ski boot from Salomon ski is absolute great design. It uses a new technology which was newly patented by Salomon, which is called "Advanced Shell Technology" which actually guarantees the perfect fit. It permits perfect control as well as transmission. It also has the new versatile V-Shaped inner form for heel locking, and still is very toe comfortable. Some of the very modern ski boots, allow you to choose between two modes. Walking and skiing, which makes the walking much more comfortable. This, usually had to be done by hand, but the new boot switches it automatically, which is a lot comfort abler. Although all of this new modern technology is incorporated into the shoe, it doesn’t lake any comfort; great design.

Cell Phone

This phone collection is an absolute great design. It has really filled a gap in the industry. It does finally not prefer business over pleasure. It is colorful, which increases the mood of a user when he uses his phone, and still it has a 2-megapixel camera, and other “toys” or “unnecessary” utensils. It is also very practical because it has an external display with which you can see the most important information such as time, and newly arrived messages or mail. Softbank has released this phone in the “Tokyo Girls Collection”, which really increases the interest even more, because current customers will really have a look at this phone. This phone will be a great success! Unfortunately, it is only being sold in Japan; no other country in the world has access to it. Great phone, great design.

Poster Rationale

My role model and designer was Wim Crouwel, with the modernist art movement. I have tried a very big variety of possible designs and ended with this one. Just like Wim Crouwel I have tried to show that different texts mean different things and some are more important than others by using colors. The name Wim Crouwel is Black and the sub-categories such as: what he is for society, and what he has done is white. Categorizing text sections like I have done via color, is making use of proximity. In addition to his name being black, it is also bold, just like Wim Crouwel tried to emphasize the main point even more; in addition, this is making use of the typical font style which Wim has used. It is also more important to get a short overview of what Wim Crouwel has done, than having to read all tiny aspects of it; so the short overview: “Role-Model Modernist Fonts and Design” is placed above the summary of his life, and what he has done. I have tried to use alignment very carefully in this project. There is a very nice line connecting the “Role-Model Modernist Fonts and Design”, “U”, and “Helvetica Created: New Alphabet 1 New Aplhabet 2 New Alphabet 3 Stedelijk Alphabet Fodor Alphabet Gridnik Alphabet”. It really makes the poster look interesting and professional. In addition the letters of the name “Wim Crouwel” are aligned perfectly just like the four text areas are on the bottom of the poster. The spacing throughout the whole piece is very precise. The distance from “wimcrouwel” to the text above, and beneath, to the life summary, is the same; just like the spacing between the four text boxes is the same as well. The spacing from the text at the top to the top of the poster is the same, as from the bottom text box to the bottom, in addition the edges of “wimcrouwel” have the same distance to the side edges. I have also tried to use capital and non-capital letters very precisely to do it just like Wim Crouwel. I didn’t make the W in wim, and C in crouwel capital because it just wouldn’t have fit the style of Wim. The red background color is a very good contrast to the black and white font colors in the front. Overall, my poster is very clean, has a lot of free space, used all four basic rules of design we have learned and incorporates all ideas that Wim Crouwel has used when designing a poster.
